Dr. Katharine Fernandez is a scientist in the Laboratory of Hearing Biology and Therapeutics. She is also an audiologist. Therefore, her work focuses on addressing the clinical need to reduce hearing loss in individuals who are at risk for developing significant, permanent damage to their hearing. In the lab, she develops animal models to study the type of hearing loss that results from exposure to common anti-cancer drugs. In the clinic, she explores potential therapeutics that may help to minimize the risk of damage to hearing in patients requiring these life-saving therapeutics. Dr. Fernandez earned an Au.D .and Ph.D. in communication sciences from James Madison University and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in auditory neuroscience at Harvard Medical School.
