World Voice Day is an observance that happens every year on April 16. It’s a day when organizations around the world join together to encourage good voice habits. The theme for World Voice Day 2014, "Voice Matters!,” reminds us that our voice is essential for our daily activities—at home, at work, and relaxing with our friends and family. The American Academy of Otolaryngology—Head and Neck Surgery (AAO-HNS) has sponsored the U.S. observance of the day since 2002.
World Voice Day encourages special activities around the world, including a Vocal Marathon in France, a free voice screening and awareness camp in India, and a World Voice Day Concert in Ann Arbor, Mi. Visit the World Voice Day website to see if there are any activities near you.
The National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD) contributes to World Voice Day with a newly updated Taking Care of Your Voice page.
We rely on our voices to inform, persuade, and connect with other people. Many people—singers, teachers, doctors, lawyers, nurses, sales people, and public speakers—are among those who make great demands on their voices and can develop disorders related to vocal misuse and overuse. But there are things all of us can do to keep our voices healthy. Find out more in this easy-to-read and helpful publication.
