NIH Workshop sponsored by the Office of Rare Diseases, NIDCD, NIMH, NICHD, and NINDS.
The olfactory system represents a simple model of neuronal development that is amenable to molecular and genetic approaches. The accessibility of the olfactory system for biopsy provides an opportunity to use this system as a window for exploring primary molecular genetic defects at the level of the developing central nervous system. This workshop will focus on recent findings in Rett and Kallmann syndromes and will explore strategies to enhance the utility of the olfactory model in understanding CNS developmental disorders.
