The 2010 target line represents the goal recommended by the Hearing Health group, which was discussed and approved by the Federal Interagency Working Group for Healthy People 2010. The target rate for 2010 is 182.5 hearing aids per 1,000 persons with moderate-to-severe hearing loss.

Note: Data are age adjusted to the 2000 standard population.

The numbers of adults using hearing aids are based on the National Health Interview Survey (NHIS), NCHS, CDC, and the numbers of adults with moderate-to-severe hearing loss are estimated from hearing testing conducted in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), NCHS, CDC.
