Founded in 1914, the Central Institute for the Deaf (CID) is a nonprofit organization that helps deaf children learn to speak, listen, and read with proficiency without the use of sign language. CID provides pediatric audiology; speech-language pathology, research collaborations; continuing education workshops and online courses for professionals; and books, tests, and curricula used to help children who are deaf and hard of hearing throughout the world. CID has a proud history of training professionals and conducting pioneering educational, clinical, and biological research in hearing and deafness. CID is a financially independent affiliate of the Washington University School of Medicine.
