On October 22, 2015, the Friends of the Congressional Hearing Health Caucus (FCHHC) sponsored a Congressional Hearing Health Forum and Hearing Screening Event on Capitol Hill. Reps. David McKinley (R-WV) and Mike Thompson (D-CA), co-chairs of the Congressional Hearing Health Caucus, welcomed guests and encouraged continued advocacy and support of hearing health issues on the Hill. About 150 congressional staffers, hearing health advocates, and other attendees participated in the forum and had the opportunity to have their hearing screened and ears checked by volunteer audiologists. NIDCD staff attended and brought Kirby, a life-sized mannequin fitted with a sound meter, to test the volume of guests’ personal music devices.

The FCHHC is composed of A.G. Bell Association for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, Academy of Doctors of Audiology, American Academy of Audiology, American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, American Cochlear Implant Alliance, American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, Conference of Educational Administrators of Schools and Programs for the Deaf, Gallaudet University, Hearing Health Foundation, Hearing Industries Association, Hearing Loss Association of America, Hearing Network Alliance, International Hearing Society, National Association of the Deaf, National Court Reporters Association, Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, and Telecommunications for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
