During a live webinar at 12:15 p.m. Eastern time on Friday, February 25, 2022, National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD) Extramural Research Training Officer Alberto Rivera-Rentas, Ph.D., will discuss program initiatives designed to encourage individuals from diverse backgrounds, including those from groups underrepresented in the biomedical and behavioral sciences, to pursue further studies or careers in biomedical research related to communication disorders.

Our programs will enhance the diversity of the NIDCD’s extramural research workforce by encouraging (1) individuals from underrepresented racial or ethnic groups; (2) individuals with disabilities; (3) individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds; and (4) women at the graduate and faculty level to participate in research in our mission areas: hearing, balance, taste, smell, voice, speech, and language. “Extramural research” is funded by the NIDCD and takes place at universities, medical centers, and other institutions throughout the U.S. and abroad. This webinar will explain NIDCD-participating initiatives and programs that focus on mentoring and research experiences for individuals from diverse backgrounds.
