The National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD) supports biomedical research and training in the areas of hearing, balance, taste, smell, voice, speech, and language. The NIDCD uses the findings from this research to increase public awareness of communication disorders and to improve their diagnosis and treatment. We are partnering with the National Eye Institute (NEI) on a Twitter chat to discuss Usher syndrome, which causes progressive loss of hearing and vision.

Usher syndrome is the most common condition that affects both hearing and vision. Through this partnership with NEI, the NIDCD hopes to increase knowledge about the disorder and inform the public about current advances in understanding the causes, diagnosis, and treatment of Usher syndrome.

We’ll be tweeting from @NIDCD and @NatEyeInstitute. Join us Tuesday, March 25 at 1 p.m. ET, and follow the conversation on Twitter using #NEIchat.
