Distorted Tunes Test

Welcome to the Distorted Tunes Test (DTT). Before you begin, make sure you are sitting down in a quiet room free of distractions. It's important there isn't any background noise, because you'll need to be able to hear clearly while you take the test. You must be alone, because having other people in the room could affect your test responses.

You are going to hear a number of well-known tunes. Some will be played correctly, while others will be played incorrectly, having wrong notes in them. Your task is to decide whether the tunes are played correctly or incorrectly.

Here's an example to show you the kind of thing to expect. Click the Play button below Play example tune and listen to the demonstration tune.* If you think the tune was played correctly, click the button labeled "Yes" under the question Was the tune played correctly? If you think the tune was played incorrectly, click the button labeled "No."

*If you see a broken link icon instead of a music controller, you may need to install a MIDI-compatible plugin such as QuickTime or Windows Media Player.
