How to Apply for Clinical and Research Mentorship Opportunities in the NIDCD Audiology Unit 

Here are instructions on the application process for clinical and research mentorship opportunities in the NIDCD Audiology Unit.

Clinical Students 

1.  Your academic advisor must contact us at 301-496-5294 to inquire about availability of a clinical rotation.

2.  If we have availability, you must submit the following to apply for a clinical rotation:

  • Letter of interest
  • Resume/CV
  • Graduate and undergraduate transcripts
  • 2 letters of recommendation

Minimum Requirements: 2 favorable letters of recommendation, GPA 3.5 or better, completed 3 semesters (5 quarters) of audiology didactic training, completed at least 3 semesters (5 quarters) of audiology clinical training. 

After review of your application materials, we will contact you to schedule an interview if you are among the top candidates, or we let you know if we will not proceed with an interview.

Summer Research Students

In addition to letting us know of your interest (by contacting brewerc@nidcd.nih.gov), you must complete the application process posted at https://www.training.nih.gov/programs/sip.

Research Students

1.  Your academic advisor must contact us at 301-496-5294 to inquire about the availability of a research rotation and to discuss the research requirements of your academic program (senior project, capstone, thesis, candidacy paper, dissertation).

2.  If we have availability and a suitable research project, we will provide you with a list of possible topics. If you are interested in these topics, you must submit the following to apply for a research rotation:

  • Letter of interest
  • Resume/CV
  • Graduate and undergraduate transcripts
  • 2 letters of recommendation

Minimum Requirements: 2 recommendations, GPA 3.5 or better.  

After review of your application materials, we will contact you to schedule an interview if you are among the top candidates, or we will let you know if we will not proceed with an interview.

Timeline for Applications
The process for interviewing, selection, and administrative processing requires at least 8 weeks.  

Summer student applications (see above) must be processed through the NIH online system, according to dates posted on the NIH website.

Applications for clinical and research rotations, including all component items listed above, should be submitted to brewerc@nidcd.nih.gov and must be received according to the following timeline:

Fall Semester: May 15
Spring Semester: October 15
Summer Semester: February 15

We will consider all applications submitted according to this timeline and will select candidates competitively based on qualifications and/or interviews. Failure to submit materials prior to these dates will result in consideration based on limited availability.
