NIDCD Scientists Take Part in Trans-NIH Effort to Help Two Young Tanzanians

NIDCD clinical scientists played a central role in a trans-NIH effort to help two young boys from Tanzania with xeroderma pigmentosum, or XP, a rare genetic disease that causes a person to be extremely sensitive to harmful UV radiation, such as sunlight. NIDCD head and neck surgeons Carter Van Waes, M.D., Ph.D., (center) and Brian Driscoll, M.D., (right) and research nurse practitioner Susan Rudy contributed to the successful removal of cancer from Ally Sufian's (age 9) lip.
