NIDCD Research Highlights
Hearing Aid Research and Development Conference Slated for September 1997
The National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD) and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) will sponsor the second biennial Hearing Aid Research and Development Conference from September 22 to 24, 1997, in Bethesda, MD. The conference will present ongoing or completed research relevant to hearing aid design and function. Current research in speech understanding related to noise, amplification, and signal processing will be examined, addressing such topics as:
- speech perception
- psychophysics
- physiology of the auditory system
- technological developments
- clinical trial results
The conference agenda will include a plenary session, slide presentations, poster sessions, and exhibits. The conference program qualifies for up to 1.2 continuing education units (CEUs) in speech pathology and audiology from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association; a maximum of 1.6 CEUs from the American Academy of Audiology; and a maximum of 1.6 hours in Category 1 credit toward the American Medical Association Physician's Recognition Award from the National Institutes of Health/Foundation for Advanced Education in the Sciences.
Conference and exhibit sessions will be held in the William H. Natcher Conference Center (Building 45) at the National Institutes of Health from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on September 22 and 23, and from 8:30 a.m. to 12 noon on September 24.
The registration fee is $250 for general attendance and $100 for students and postdoctoral candidates. Fees include attendance at all meetings, poster sessions, and exhibits; continental breakfast each morning; lite-fare lunches on September 22 and 23; and the conference proceedings booklet. Registration forms and fees must be submitted by June 30, 1997. A block of rooms has been reserved for participants at the Hyatt Regency in Bethesda at a special conference rate.
