NIDCD Tinnitus Workshop Summary Available

Want to know more about that ringing in your ears? NIDCD held a two-day workshop on December 5–6, 2005, in Chevy Chase, MD, to explore new research opportunities for understanding the central mechanisms and potential treatments for this sometimes debilitating condition. According to estimates by the American Tinnitus Association, at least 12 million Americans suffer from tinnitus. Of these, at least one million experience it so severely that it interferes with their daily activities. The minutes from this workshop are on the NIDCD Web site at www.nidcd.nih.gov/funding/programs/wkshp_tinnitus.htm. You can also find general information on tinnitus at www.nidcd.nih.gov/health/hearing/noiseinear.asp.
