Noise-induced hearing loss is cumulative, which is another way of saying it takes place throughout your lifetime. Damage is often not noticed for many years. It accumulates until finally, when you get into your 40s and 50s, you notice that you need to turn your TV set up, or you notice that in a crowded restaurant you have trouble hearing someone talk on the other side of the table. You've got hearing loss and it is interfering with your ability to communicate. Once you have hearing loss, there is not a lot we can do to repair the loss.
