NIH P50—Experimental and Clinical Studies of Presbyacusis

  • Established as PPG in 1987 to evaluate age-related changes in auditory function
  • Included longitudinal studies of hearing in both a gerbil animal model and human subjects
  • Pathophysiological and histopathological studies were restricted to animals
  • With renewal in 2002 emphasis shifted to morpholgic and molecular studies of human temporal bones
