Communication Service for the Deaf, Inc., (CSD) is a world leader in providing broad-based quality human service programs and telecommunication relay services for consumers who are deaf and hard-of-hearing. CSD has a staff of approximately 2,000 people in facilities across the United States. The Disabilities Rights Office, housed within the Consumer and Governmental Affairs Bureau at the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), ensures that FCC actions and policies enable people with disabilities to have the same access as everyone else to telecommunications. FCC implements mandates for nationwide telephone relay services, accessibility, and usability of telecommunications wireline and wireless products and services. These services include hearing aid compatibility of phones, closed captioning of television programming, and accessibility of emergency information on television.

The Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA) is a nonprofit organization with a mission to open the world of communication to people with hearing loss through education, information, support, and advocacy. HLAA provides assistance and resources for people with hearing loss and their families to learn how to adjust to living with hearing loss. HLAA is working to eradicate the stigma associated with hearing loss and raise public awareness about the need for prevention and the importance of regular hearing screenings throughout life. Its national support network includes an office in the District of Columbia area, 14 state organizations, and 200 local chapters. The National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR) is part of the Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services (OSERS), U.S. Department of Education. NIDRR supports a comprehensive program of national and international research into all aspects of the rehabilitation of people with disabilities and their successful integration into education, work, and community life. Grants are awarded to institutions of higher education and qualified organizations; the fellowship program provides grants to individuals with advanced rehabilitation credentials. The National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD), one of the National Institutes of Health, supports and conducts research and research training on the normal and disordered processes of hearing, balance, taste, smell, voice, speech, and language. The NIDCD develops health information based on scientific discovery and disseminates it to the public. In October 2008, the NIDCD launched It's a Noisy Planet. Protect Their Hearing (www.noisyplanet.nidcd.nih.gov). This national campaign is designed to increase awareness among parents of youth ages 8 to 12 about the causes and prevention of noise-induced hearing loss. The NIDCD provides a toll-free telephone service through its information clearinghouse. Fact sheets, brochures, teaching curricula, and reports are available, with many in Spanish.

St. Joseph Institute for the Deaf (SJI) is committed to the spiritual and emotional growth and personal development of hearing-impaired children and young adults. SJI teaches children with hearing loss to hear, speak, and read from birth to eighth grade, regardless of race, religion, gender, or finances. Programs include early intervention; toddler, preschool, and kindergarten through eighth-grade classes; I-Hear teletherapy services; evaluations; local district partnerships; and mainstream consultancy. The U.S. Access Board is an independent federal agency that promotes equality for people with disabilities through leadership in accessible design. The board develops guidelines and standards under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and other federal laws that address access to the built environment, transportation, communication, and information technology. In addition, the board enforces accessibility standards covering federally funded facilities and promotes accessibility through public outreach, technical assistance, training, published guidance, and research. Copies of all board guidelines and standards are available free from the board, including through its website, in a variety of formats. The board also publishes a host of guidance materials on its design requirements and other aspects of accessible design for professional, consumer, and general audiences.
